Sen. Brown says he was sex-abuse victim

Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) will reveal that he was a victim of sexual abuse as a child during an interview set to air on Sunday.

Brown, in an interview previewing his forthcoming book, told “60 Minutes” that he suffered sexual abuse “several times” by a camp counselor when he was 10 years old, and was the victim of physical abuse by a stepfather.

{mosads}Brown said in the interview, set to air Sunday on CBS, that he hadn’t even told his mother about the sexual abuse.

“That’s what happens when you’re a victim. You’re embarrassed. You’re hurt,” he said, adding that he was threatened by his assailant. “He said ‘If you tell anybody … I’ll kill you. I will make sure that nobody believes you.’”

Brown’s book, Against All Odds, has been billed as an opportunity by the Massachusetts Republican, who shot to national stardom in his upset victory last year in the state’s Senate race, to reveal more of his background and his hard upbringing.

That includes being the victim of physical abuse by one of his stepfathers, which was so intense that Brown now says he wishes he could buy the house in which it occurred, and burn it down.

“I actually called the realtor and went in and took the tour and relived kind of where everything was … to make sure I wasn’t … dreaming,” he said. “As I left, I said, ‘Man, I wish I had the money. I’d just buy this thing and burn it down.’ ”
