Republican lawmaker says, on the budget, Democrats left a ‘pile of crap’
A Republican lawmaker on Tuesday accused Democrats of leaving the country a fiscal “pile of crap” for not passing a budget when they controlled both chambers of Congress.
Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho), a member of the Appropriations Committee, lashed out at Democrats during a debate over a three-week government funding measure intended to avert a government shutdown. Simpson responded to Democrats, who accused Republicans of carrying out a piecemeal spending plan.
{mosads}”I will tell you the outrage here is that we are having to do this because the majority — the former majority — when they had the majority in the House and the majority in the Senate and the White House failed to pass an appropriations bill,” he said during a speech on the House floor.
“They left the American people in this country with this pile of crap,” he continued. “They should not complain about how we tried to clean this up.”
Simpson’s comments are another example of the heated rhetoric over spending cuts on Capitol Hill.
The three-week plan is expected to pass the House Tuesday afternoon, after which it will be sent to the Senate. President Obama would have to sign the bill by March 18 to stave off a shutdown.
