Nancy Pelosi out of hospital in Rome, resuming travel plans

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was hospitalized in Rome Monday after feeling “slightly unwell.”

Pelosi was released after the completion of some tests, according to Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.), who is traveling in the delegation with Pelosi.

‪Pelosi spokesman Nadeam Elshami confirmed that the minority leader, who had traveled to Afghanistan over the weekend, had been released and was resuming her travel plans.‬

‪“After several flights yesterday in Afghanistan, and a long flight back to Italy that arrived early this morning, Leader Pelosi was not feeling well,” Elshami said in a statement. “This morning in Rome, the Leader was advised to visit a clinic, and the closest medical facility was a hospital. The Leader is now resuming her schedule in Italy.”‬

Pelosi tweeted an update as well: “Thanks to everyone for your well wishes-had a very productive trip to Afghanistan and am in Italy resuming meetings now.”

Pelosi received tests at Umberto I hospital in Rome, according to Italian news reports.

Pelosi was scheduled to meet with Italian Defense Minister Ignazio La Russa and Gianfranco Fini, the head of the Italian parliament’s lower legislative body, when she began feeling unwell, according to Agence-France Presse.

Her meeting with La Russa was canceled and her meeting with Fini postponed. The minority leader is in Italy to meet with U.S. troops and celebrate the 150th anniversary of Italy’s unification. She also traveled to Afghanistan over the weekend.

“We had a strenuous few days in Afghanistan, but it was the most productive trip I’ve ever been on as a member of Congress,” Pascrell said.
