Limbaugh: GOP caved on budget deal

Rush Limbaugh said Monday that Republican leaders “caved” on the budget deal they struck with the White House on Friday night.

On his radio show, the conservative firebrand said he was less than enthusiastic about the $38.5 billion federal spending compromise.

{mosads}Limbaugh said he wished the spending cuts had been larger.

“We’ve shown that we’ll cave. We have demonstrated that we will cave if they threaten something like government shutdown,” Limbaugh said.

He added that a handful of Tea Party Republican freshmen in the House he’d talked to were “devastated” by the deal. He called the Republican House leadership in the mid-1990s, led by then-House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), “revolutionaries” for allowing a shutdown instead of conceding to a deal.

Yet Limbaugh did offer some lukewarm praise for the agreement.

“Thirty-eight billion dollars, I’m sorry I can’t start throwing parties over it, but it’s a first step,” Limbaugh said.

“I wish it would have been $100 billion, I wish it would’ve been $61 billion,” he said.

“The Newt bunch were revolutionaries,” Limbaugh said. “The House leadership today is not revolutionaries.”
