DeMint not ‘desperate’ enough to want to be vice president
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), a champion of the Tea Party movement, isn’t interested in being the Republican vice presidential nominee in 2012.
In an interview Wednesday with the conservative National Review magazine’s The Corner blog, DeMint unequivocally shot down the possibility.
{mosads}“I have no interest in that,” DeMint told the magazine. “I am more of a change agent than a supporting actor.”
DeMint said the No. 2 spot on the Republican presidential ticket wasn’t that appealing. He said “somebody would have to be pretty desperate to do that.”
Although some have speculated that DeMint could jump into the 2012 race as a contender, he has repeatedly denied the possibility.
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), another Tea Party favorite, has shown interest in running for president and has said she will decide whether or not to form a presidential exploratory committee sometime this summer.
