Poll: Obama’s birth certificate converts some disbelievers
Half as many Americans believe President Obama was not born in Hawaii
than did before he released his long-form birth certificate, a new poll
found.
According to a Washington Post poll released Thursday, 70 percent of Americans say Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, after Obama released the document. A year ago the same poll found that just 48 percent of Americans believed Honolulu was Obama’s birthplace.
{mosads}Additionally, the poll found that only 10 percent of Americans believe either that there is “solid evidence” that Obama was born in another country, or reason to have a “suspicion” that he was born outside the United States, or hold “no opinion” on the subject. This marks a 10-point decrease from polling conducted last year.
Despite having previously released copies of his birth certificate to debunk rumors by so-called “birthers” that he was not born in the U.S. and not, therefore, eligible to be president, Obama felt it necessary to release the long form of his birth certificate last Monday to try to once and for all put an end to the rumors.
