Pelosi leads congressional delegation to Iraq
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) led a congressional delegation on Saturday to Iraq, where they met with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
Pelosi led seven other Democrats and one Republican to Baghdad to “thank our troops, assess progress on redeployment, and meet [with] Iraqi and U.S. officials,” she said on Twitter.
The stopover comes after the top House Democrat announced that she’d led the congressional delegation — or “CODEL” — to Qatar on Friday.
Pelosi has a history of leading Mother’s Day weekend trips to visit troops in war zones. As Speaker, she traveled to Iraq that weekend in 2009, and headed to Afghanistan in 2010.
Pelosi tweeted a photograph of herself and the delegation with Iraq’s prime minister.
