New York Times: Obama no better than Clinton on gender balance
Women are 35 percent of Obama’s Cabinet while they were 41 percent of Clinton’s cabinet at about this point in his administration.
{mosads}Women’s opportunities to hold high-level posts have drawn attention recently as many Democrats have rallied behind the cause of having Janet Yellen nominated to be the first female Federal Reserve chair.
Many of the president’s closest aides favor former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers instead.
The gender imbalance in Obama’s Cabinet, The Times said, has become more visible as high-profile women like Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have departed from the administration. Many liberals were disappointed when vacancies at State, Defense and Treasury secretary were all filled by men.
Obama himself urged last spring that critics “wait until they’ve seen all my appointments, who is in the White House staff and who is in my cabinet” before making judgments about his commitment to gender equity.
