Schwarzenegger, Shriver separating
Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) and his wife, Maria Shriver, are ending their 25-year marriage, according to media reports.
The couple issued a joint statement Monday saying they are already living apart, with Shriver having moved out of the couple’s Brentwood, Calif., mansion, according to reports.
{mosads}”This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us,” the statement said, according to The Los Angeles Times. “After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer, we came to this decision together. At this time, we are living apart while we work on the future of our relationship.”
Schwarzenegger and Shriver were one of the most widely recognized power-couples in the country. Schwarzenegger became California’s governor in 2003 after working as a body builder and movie star. Shriver was a broadcast journalist for NBC and is a member of the Kennedy political dynasty.
The couple gained attention during the 2003 recall campaign, when Shriver defended her husband from allegations that he frequently groped women.
But both Shriver and Schwarzenegger appeared headed in separate directions after his governorship ended earlier this year, according to reports — Shriver wants to get back into journalism and Schwarzenegger is eager to jump back into acting.
In their statement, the couple said they plan to raise their four children together.
