Former IMF chief indicted on charges of attempted rape
The former chief of the International Monetary Fund was indicted Thursday for allegedly attempting to rape a hotel maid, accoriding to court papers.
Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former IMF chief and one-time likely liberal nominee for the French presidency, was indicted by a New York grand jury on charges of attempted rape of a hotel maid, according to a copy of the indictment.
{mosads}The seven-count indictment included two counts of a criminal sexual act in the first degree, one count of attempted rape in the first degree, one count of sexual abuse in the first degree, one count of unlawful imprisonment in the second degree, one count of sexual abuse in the third degree and one count of forcible touching.
The indictment comes after Strauss-Kahn stepped down from his IMF post late Wednesday night.
Police arrested Strauss-Kahn Saturday, pulling him off a plane at New York’s JFK International Airport that was set to fly back to France. The maid reported the alleged incident and hotel officials contacted police, authorities said.
Since Saturday, Strauss-Kahn has been held without bail at New York’s Rikers Island.
According to Reuters, Strauss-Kahn was granted $1 million bail and 24-hour home confinement. A judge also ruled that Strauss-Kahn has to have a $5 million insurance bond.
