House GOP leader Cantor predicts Obama will lose in 2012
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said Monday that he’s confident President Obama will lose the White House in 2012.
“I believe that President Obama will be defeated in November of ’12,” Cantor said in a Web interview with ABC News posted Monday.
Cantor, the second-ranking House Republican, went out on a limb somewhat by predicting on the record that the eventual GOP nominee would prevail over the incumbent Obama in next fall’s presidential election.
Cantor didn’t get specific as to who might be the best candidate to unseat the president, but expressed satisfaction that the field had all embraced spending cuts and the congressional GOP’s fiscal agenda.
“I do think that the American people are witnessing a president who may make good speeches, but doesn’t deliver,” Cantor said of Obama’s style of leadership.
And he questioned whether Obama could seriously wage a successful reelection campaign with persistently high unemployment. The jobless rate stood at 9.1 percent at the end of May.
“I don’t know what the history has shown, but I doubt seriously that a president can do that,” Cantor said.
