Bachmann will make 2012 presidential announcement Monday in Iowa

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) will formally launch her campaign on Monday in Waterloo, Iowa, her spokesman confirmed Wednesday.

Bachmann, the Tea Party favorite who’s running for the Republican presidential nomination, will make her announcement near her birthplace in the key primary state, which hosts the first nominating contest early next year.

{mosads}The Minnesota congresswoman’s intentions have been no secret; she had long said she would make her formal announcement in Waterloo sometime in June, though she hadn’t set a date.

But Bachmann’s already in the race. She took the Republican field by surprise by announcing onstage at a debate in New Hampshire earlier this month that she’d be running. (She won positive reviews for her performance, too.)

And as if to end any doubt about her candidacy, Bachmann released a Web video saying she’s running, and has filed the paperwork to set up a campaign.
