VIDEO: Rick Perry says evolution theory ‘has some gaps’ in it
Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) told a young boy on the campaign trail Thursday that he thinks the theory of evolution “has some gaps” in it.
“It’s a theory that’s out there. It’s got some gaps in it. In Texas we teach both creationism and evolution, because I figure you’re smart enough to figure out which one’s right,” Perry said during a meet and greet in Portsmouth, N.H.
Perry, less than a week into his campaign for the GOP presidential nomination, made the remarks in responding to the boy’s question: “How old do you think the Earth is?”
“You know what I don’t have any idea, I think it’s pretty old … I’m not sure anybody actually knows how old the earth is,” responded Perry.
The boy’s mom, who was prompting her son to ask the questions, pressed Perry for his views on evolution and science, reported ABC News.
