Carter will write book about treatment of women

The report says Carter plans to write a 50,000-word book about “all aspects of women’s lives” that covers the discrimination of women and how religious texts are used to justify it.  

 “I am convinced that discrimination against women and girls is one of the world’s most serious, all-pervasive and largely ignored violations of basic human rights,” Carter wrote in a book proposal obtained by the Times. 

The proposal was sent to publishers by Lynn Nesbit, who’s also Joan Didion’s and Robert Caro’s literary agent. It was sent to several major publishers last week, but it’s unclear which ones received it. 

{mosads}Since the end of his presidency in 1981, Carter, who’s now 88, has traveled the world as a human rights advocate and author. 

“Whenever possible, I’ll use my personal observations and experiences, such as a trip around Africa with Bill Gates Sr. and his wife,” Carter wrote, “during which he and I spent much of our time in enormous brothels, and appeared with Nelson Mandela to end South Africa’s practice of outlawing treatment for H.I.V.-AIDS.”

Carter spoke about the mistreatment of women and girls in a speech in Atlanta in June. 

The 39^th president was recently in the news when he spoke at the 50^th anniversary of the March on Washington event.
