Obama campaign urges calls to Congress, provides script

Hello, my name is __________ and I’m a voter calling from __________ (your city or town).

I’m a voter who supports the American Jobs Act, and I’m asking my representative to back it, too.

Will you support the American Jobs Act?

Any member of Congress who backs these policies to get Americans back to work will have my thanks.

Obama issued a similar challenge in the midst of the debt crisis, urging his supporters in a primetime speech to call their congressmen and insist they not become “collateral damage to Washington’s political warfare.”

Immediately following his speech, the websites of House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and presidential hopeful Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) were overloaded.

The next morning, House phone circuits operated at near capacity and some constituents were met with dropped calls or busy signals.
