Ex-Gov. Blagojevich sentencing delayed

Sentencing for former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) was delayed on Monday.

Blagojevich’s Oct. 6 sentencing has been “stricken until further order by the court,” according to a Chicago Sun-Times report about a notice posted at the Chicago U.S. District Court on Monday. The Sun-Times noted that there was no reason mentioned for the delay. 

{mosads}Blagojevich was convicted on 17 of 20 counts of public corruption in late June related to charges that he had attempted to sell President Obama’s Illinois Senate seat. Blagojevich was found not guilty on one charge related to solicitation of a bribe; the jury did not deliver verdicts on two other counts and was deadlocked on another. 

Blagojevich’s sentencing could range from at least 30 years to life in prison, and his lawyers plan on fighting for probation, according to the Chicago newspaper.
