Details of Gingrich’s updated ‘Contract with America’ emerge

{mosads}“I would say in particular the section on brain science, which will be extraordinary as it is flushed out over the next few months,” Gingrich cited as an example to The Daily Caller.

The Georgia Republican also said he wants the document to develop organically, so Americans would not feel that the platform was “jammed down their throat” — a refrain Republicans have called upon to describe President Obamas healthcare reform package.

Gingrich said the primary focus of the contract will be creating jobs and balancing the budget. But the self-proclaimed policy wonk also believes that reform of the federal judiciary is necessary to prevent “the continued elitist assault on American culture.”

“I’ve gone from being critical of the judges to advocating a Jeffersonian response, which in some cases would actually abolish the judgeships,” Gingrich told the news website.

Gingrich said he hopes the contract will ignite his campaign, much as the original document in 1994 propelled House Republicans to their first majority in more than 40 years. He has set high expectations for the plan, saying his ideas will be “very big, and they’re exactly what Abraham Lincoln would have campaigned on.”

Channeling his Contract with America could play well with conservative voters, who are re-evaluating the candidates after a shaky debate performance Thursday by presumptive front-runner Rick Perry. In addition to being Gingrich’s greatest political achievement, the Tea Party co-opted the name to write a Contract from America in 2010 for congressional candidates to sign on to.
