Graham: Obama could ‘lose his second term’

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) predicted President Obama is going to lose control of his final three years in office if he doesn’t fix the rollout of the healthcare law. [WATCH VIDEO]

Graham said the millions of cancellation notices going out to people who buy insurance on the individual market could cause a rebellion in the Democratic conference if Obama does not level with the public.

{mosads}“All I can say is that if this doesn’t turn around pretty quickly, President Obama is going to lose his second term,” Graham said Wednesday night on Fox News. “Democrats are going to bail out in droves before next election. And his signature issue is going up in flames if he doesn’t fix this.”

More than three million people who buy insurance on the individual market have received cancellation notices for existing plans. The individual market accounts for about 5 percent of people buying insurance.

The administration has said those people would have additional options on the newly created exchanges, likely with better benefits. Hiccups in the main website to purchase those plans have delayed many from signing up.

Former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney made a similar argument over the weekend, saying the healthcare law is “rotting” Obama’s second term away.

A number of Democrats — including many up for reelection in 2014 — have called on the administration to delay the enrollment period until the website is fixed.

“If you are a Democrat and you voted for this, you are really going to have a hard time explaining to your constituents in November 2014, particularly if you are in a red state, why this was a good idea,” Graham said.

Graham asserted that Obama had made the misleading argument that if you like your insurance, you can keep it because he was employing a “win-at-all-cost” strategy.

“But, if the president doesn’t re-establish some confidence by addressing the American people and being honest with them about what’s going on here, I think he is going to have a rebellion in the ranks,” he said.
