Obama hosts Veterans Day breakfast

President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama hosted a Veterans Day breakfast on Monday morning at the White House, ahead of his scheduled trip to Arlington National Cemetery for a wreath-laying ceremony.

The closed-press breakfast with veterans and their families is held annually by the Obamas. Vice President Biden will also attend.

{mosads}In the president’s weekly address, he said that the Veteran’s Day Holiday was an opportunity to say “thank you” to those who had served.

“Thank you to that greatest generation who fought island by island across the Pacific, and freed millions from fascism in Europe,” Obama said. “Thank you to the heroes who risked everything through the bitter cold of Korea and the stifling heat of Vietnam.  And thank you to all the heroes who have served since, most recently our 9/11 Generation of veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan.”

The president also touted his initiative to help returning veterans find work.

“If you fight for your country overseas, you should never have to fight for a job when you come home,” Obama said.
