Poll: Christie tops Cuomo in New York

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) leads Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) in a potential presidential match-up in Cuomo’s home state of New York. 

According to a Siena College poll released Monday, Christie leads Cuomo 47 percent to 42 percent among New York voters. Cuomo’s favorability rating hangs at 40 percent while 56 percent of people have an unfavorable view of the governor. 

{mosads}Christie, however, largely trails Hillary Clinton — a former senator from the state — by 16 points in a potential match-up in 2016. Clinton leads 56 percent to 40 percent. 

Clinton has dominated speculation about the 2016 Democratic nomination and leads in most polling. But Cuomo is considered another potential candidate if Clinton does not run. 

Republicans are unlikely to win New York’s 29 electoral votes in a presidential election. President Reagan was the last Republican to win the blue state in 1984. 

The poll surveyed 806 New York voters and has a 3.5 percent margin of error.
