Sinema completes Ironman triathlon

Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) on Sunday became the first sitting member of Congress to complete an Ironman triathlon. She tweeted a photo of herself crossing the finish line, completing the race in 15 hours, 12 minutes and 33 seconds.

Arizona’s Ironman race in Tempe included a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run. Sinema, a freshman, had trained for the race for a year. Ironman races are hosted worldwide.

At one point during the bike portion, Sinema fell off her bike because of a four-foot tumbleweed in the road, she tweeted Monday.

Freshman Democrat Steven Horsford (Nev.) told Sinema he looked forward to running with her soon, he tweeted Sunday.

Sinema, 37, also became the first openly bisexual member of Congress when she was sworn in with the rest of her class in January.
