House Dems reemphasize “days since” meme

{mosads}“900 days since Senate Democrats offered a budget plan is a national disgrace,” read the headline of an op-ed written by Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R.-Wis.) earlier this month at the National Review.

House Democrats are using the same method to hit back at Republicans on jobs.

“All tricks and no jobs agenda: 300 days of GOP majority in the House,” says the headline of a blog posted Monday at House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) website.

“For 300 days, Americans have knocked on the door of the GOP-led House calling for action on jobs – and for 300 days Republicans have doled out tricks instead of a jobs agenda,” the blog says. “Instead of working with Democrats to pass President Obama’s American Jobs Act, the GOP will continue looking out for their special interest friends and only advance “small-bore bills” while millions of Americans continue searching for a job.”

The House Democrat’s website posted a similar statement on Monday, as did Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.). Democrats have been arguing that Republicans have failed to focus on jobs since January, but a number of lawmakers pulled together to make the case in unison on Monday for day 300.

Earlier this month, Senate Republicans voted in unison to block Obama’s jobs legislation, and then again voted to filibuster a scaled-back piece of the bill aimed at putting teachers and first-responders back to work.

Republicans have argued that the House has passed 15 jobs bills, which they call the “Forgotten 15,” that the Senate has yet to act on.

Hoyer responded by calling the bills the “Forgettable 15,” saying they roll-back critical consumer and environmental protections, and won’t create jobs because they address regulations that aren’t in affect yet.
