NRCC no longer selling ‘Happy Holidays’ shirt

The National Republican Congressional Committee is no longer selling a T-shirt that says “Happy Holidays is what liberals say.”

An NRCC spokesman told The Hill on Monday that the shirt, which said “Merry Christmas” on its back, was taken down from the website because it was sold out.

Asked if the popular shirt would be brought back, the spokesman said the NRCC was looking at other products.

”Currently, it’s sold out, but we’re working to get other products up,” NRCC press secretary Daniel Scarpinato said to The Hill.

The campaign arm for House Republicans had been criticized for selling the shirt by Democrats.

Mo Elleithee, communications director at the Democratic National Committee, retweeted the NRCC’s tweet and said, “Meet the ‘more inclusive’ GOP!”

Last week, the NRCC tweeted about the T-shirt as a Black Friday promotion.

Buzzfeed reported the T-shirt was gone from the NRCC’s online store as of Monday.

The NRCC has also been selling a shirt since last Tuesday that says, “I’m not afraid to say ‘Merry Christmas,’ ” for $39.99, which is available in either green or red.

Sarah Palin recently released a book about Christmas, Good Tidings and Great Joy, in which she expresses frustration for the use of “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas.”
