White House: GOP out of sync with women

White House press secretary Jay Carney on Thursday slammed House Republicans for being out of sync with women on a variety of issues.

Carney said the GOP’s “problem” with women voters “isn’t about language, it’s about policies.”

{mosads}Carney was responding to a question on the minimum wage but turned it around to criticize the GOP on women.

The comments came about an hour after Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) offered comments about what advice he gives to members running against women candidates.

“I try to get them to be a little more sensitive,” Boehner told reporters.

Carney urged Republicans to support the minimum wage act and to “stop trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act,” both of which support women’s issues, he said.

The White House spokesman said Obama “quite explicitly and passionately” supports raising the minimum wage.

But the White House spokesman sidestepped questions about whether the president would support a $15 minimum wage hike demanded by fast food workers striking around the country on Thursday.

“I can tell you that, as the president said in his State of the Union address and as we have said clearly about the Senate bill, the Senate proposal for $10.10, which we support, that the minimum wage needs to be raised,” Carney said.
