Priebus knocks Obama uncle ‘lie,’ says president ‘untrustworthy’

Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus said Thursday that little lies like the White House saying Obama had never met his uncle show President Obama is untrustworthy.

“The American people are seeing Barack Obama for what he is. He says one thing and does another. He’s been lying to the American people,” Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, said in interview on Fox News’s “Hannity” show Thursday night.

{mosads}“These little lies, like, you know, lying about whether you met someone or not that’s been significant in your life— listen, those are big things because it goes to the character of the person that you’re dealing with. And President Obama is proving himself not to be trustworthy on the small things and now the very big things,” he added.

Priebus then attacked the president for statements he has made on healthcare.

Priebus said Obama “intentionally lied” to the public in his “if you like it, you can keep it promise” under ObamaCare. The president acted with “gross negligence,” he said.

“What that means is that, when you act in such a way that you knew or should have known that it’s so grossly obvious that what you said and what you did are so opposite from each other that under the law, you, in effect, intentionally lied to the American people,” Priebus said.

White House spokesman Jay Carney on Thursday said Obama had met his uncle Onyango Obama during a brief stay with him when the president attended Harvard University.

In 2011, officials had told The Boston Globe that the president had never met Onyango Obama, who at the time had been arrested for drunk driving.

On Thursday, Carney said officials in 2011 didn’t ask Obama about whether he had met his uncle and had instead relied on other records, including the president’s own memoir.

Onyango Obama is in the news because he was granted legal residency in Boston this week.
