Poll: Obama’s approval on economy unchanged

President Obama’s approval rating on the economy remains at 37 percent — unchanged from last month, according to a new poll.

A New York Times/CBS poll released Tuesday found another 58 percent of people disapprove of the president’s handling of the economy. 

The jobs report last week, which found the nation’s unemployment rate fell to 7 percent, did little to raise the president’s approval on the issue. 

{mosads}However, 37 percent of people now say the economy is in good condition, a 5-point boost since last month. Another 61 percent of people disagree. 

The plurality — 42 percent of people — believes the economy has stayed the same. Another 30 percent believe it is getting worse, while 27 percent think it is getting better. 

Those with higher incomes tend to be more optimistic about the economy, with 39 percent of those making more than $100,000 believing it is improving. 

The poll was taken Dec. 5-8 — starting a day before the jobs report was released.  

The jobs report found 203,000 jobs were added in November, the second time in two months the numbers have been higher than expected. The unemployment rate is the lowest since Obama was first elected, in 2008. 

The poll sampled 1,000 people and has a 3-percent margin of error. The full results of the poll will be released later in the day.
