Gov. Cuomo: ‘We have too much government’

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) said Tuesday “We just have too much government.”

Cuomo spoke to reporters about his tax commission’s new report that recommended local governments share or consolidate services in the coming years.

“We just have too much government, period,” Cuomo told reporters on Long Island, according to NYStateofPolitics.com. “We have to find a way to get them to consolidate and share services.”

{mosads}Since Cuomo served as the state’s attorney general, he’s been working to reduce the size of government, the report notes.

“Not every government has to do everything,” Cuomo said. “Not every government has to have its own insurance department and payroll department and legal department. There can be efficiencies.”

Cuomo’s name has been floated as a potential Democratic candidate for the 2016 presidential race.

Late last month, Cuomo reiterated he is not running for president. He was asked for his reaction to a poll at the time, which said New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) had a higher approval rating than him.

“It said Chris Christie has better numbers for president than I do,” Cuomo said. “Yeah, because he’s running for president, and I am not.”
