Gov. Haley got a pistol for Christmas
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) showed off a gun she got as a Christmas present on Thursday.
“Our family had a wonderful Christmas together! I must have been good Santa gave me a Beretta PX4 Storm,” she wrote on her Facebook and Instagram page Thursday.
She posted a photo of the pistol with that caption.
According to the gun manufacturer’s website, that particular gun costs $575. One version can hold a magazine capacity of up to 17 rounds of bullets.
{mosads}In July, Haley, a rising star in the GOP, toured the manufacturing plant for gun company FN, which produces weapons for the National Guard. Her husband is a member of the Guard and has been based in Afghanistan nearly a year.
She was seen firing automatic machine guns to test them during the tour.
South Carolina law has relatively loose gun laws. No resident is required to have a state permit in order to possess a handgun, rifle or shotgun. Residents are required, however, to obtain a concealable weapons permit before carrying a handgun that’s concealed or unconcealed. Carrying a firearm onto a private or public property is also illegal without permission. It’s illegal to possess a machine gun.
Haley did sign legislation the South Carolina legislature passed this year that strengthens how people with mental health issues interested in purchasing firearms are tracked in a database.
