GOP chairman calls on MSNBC host to apologize
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on Monday said an MSNBC host should apologize for a segment he said mocked Mitt Romney’s adopted grandson.
In a message on Twitter, Priebus described the segment as “disgusting.”
{mosads}He said the MSNBC host, Melissa Harris-Perry, “should apologize immediately for mocking Romney’s adopted grandchild.
In the segment that aired on Sunday, a Romney family photo that showed Romney and his grandchildren was shown as part of a “photos of the year” segment. One of the grandchildren, Kieran Romney, is African American.
Panelists were invited to give captions for the photos, prompting Pia Glenn to sing “one of these things is not like the other, one of these things just isn’t the same.”
Another panelist then joked that the photo “sums up the diversity of the Republican part, the RNC. At the convention, they find one black person.”
Perry joked that the biggest story of 2040 would be the marriage of Kieran Romney and North West, the daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
Conservatives have railed over the photo on social media, arguing the mocking on Harris-Perry’s show was racist.
