Michelle Obama to hit West Coast for fundraising swing
Michelle Obama has rescheduled her West Coast fundraising swing and will headline three events for the Democratic party at the end of the month, The Hill has learned.
Her first stop will be in Los Angeles for a Democratic National Committee event on Jan. 29. She then heads to San Francisco for a DNC event on the 30th and will also appear at a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fundraiser on the 31st, according to a White House official.
{mosads}The fundraising swing will make up for one she had scheduled in October but was canceled because of the government shutdown.
Details have not been released for the DNC events but the first lady was originally scheduled to appear at “Everybody Loves Raymond” creator Philip Rosenthal’s home in Los Angeles.
She will House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for “A Women’s Lunch” the Fairmont Hotel for the DCCC event, according to an invitation obtained by The Hill.Tickets range in prices from $32,400 per couple for the VIP treatment to $10,000 per person for a photo and lunch, $5,000 per person for a table of 10 to $500 per person for a single seat.
This will be the first fundraiser Obama has held for the DCCC this cycle. She headlined several fundraisers for the DNC last year and also attended events for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Virginia Gov.-elect Terry McAuliffe and for then-Senate candidate Ed Markey (D-Mass.).
The first lady raised at least $31 million for her husband’s reelection effort in 2012. Her approval ratings consistently top her husband’s, making her a popular fundraiser for Democratic candidates.
