Mayor Bloomberg: Man arrested in plot to bomb police, troops

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced Sunday night that authorities had arrested and charged a man wih plotting to detonate bombs targeting police stations, post offices as well as American military personnel.

The suspect, identified as 27 year old Jose Pimentel of Washington Heights, faces “terrorism related charges,” said Bloomberg at a press conference.

{mosads}Bloomberg described Pimentel who was arrested Saturday as a “lone wolf.” The mayor said he was “motivated by his resentment of American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan” as well as by “al Qaeda propaganda.”

Bloomberg said there was no evidence to link Pimentel with a larger plot directed from overseas.
