Obama sees job approval fall

President Obama’s average job approval rating dropped more than 2 percentage points last year, according to Gallup.

In 2013 — his fifth year in office — Obama averaged a 45.8-percent rating, which is more than 2 percentage points lower than the one recorded a year earlier.

{mosads}His rating from last year is still higher than the 44.4 percent average he received for 2011, Gallup indicates.

The newest average was calculated based on daily tracking polls between Jan. 20, 2013, and Jan. 19 this year.

Gallup’s latest daily poll suggests 40 percent of the public currently approves of Obama’s job performance right now.

Obama’s average approval rating last year is low compared to the same period for some of his predecessors. President George W. Bush averaged 45.7 percent during his fifth year in office. President Richard Nixon averaged even lower, with 41.1 percent.

Presidents Clinton, Reagan, and Eisenhower averaged an approval rating of above 50 percent during the start of their second terms.
