Police: Three dead in Maryland mall shooting
Three people died Saturday in a shooting at a Columbia, Maryland mall, according to the Howard County police.
Police chief Bill McMahon told reporters at a briefing that one of the three deceased was believed to be the shooter, and has still not been identified.
{mosads}McMahon said two of the deceased are a male and female in their early 20s that worked at Zumiez, an upper-level skateboard shop at the mall where the shooting took place.
Police said the shooter was dead when they came upon him, and that he was still in possession of a large amount of ammunition. McMahon said the shooter used a shotgun.
The department said in a tweet that a call came into 911 around 11:15 a.m. that shots were fired at the Columbia mall. Police found three dead, including “one found near a gun and ammunition.”
Police believe the mall is secure at this time but are asking people inside to stay in place until officers can secure the area.
A motive is unknown at this time.
