Sen. Mark Udall’s son arrested for heroin possession
Sen. Mark Udall’s (D-Colo.) son was arrested on Wednesday and charged with trespassing and heroin possession, according to the Boulder County Sherriff.
Udall’s office confirmed the arrest in a statement Thursday.
{mosads}“Maggie and I are deeply distressed to learn of our son’s arrest,” Udall said in the statement. “We love our son and stand with him in his commitment to getting the treatment he needs. We appreciate the private space to deal with this as a family.”
Udall’s 26-year-old son, Jed Udall, allegedly broke into a number of cars in Eldorado Springs, Colo. Police found heroin paraphernalia on him, according to the sheriff.
“While searching the suspect deputies found drug paraphernalia, the suspect told deputies he had used heroin 48 hours prior to their contact with him,” the Sherriff’s office said.
He was arrested on four counts of trespassing and one count of possession of a controlled substance — both considered felonies. He was booked at a Jail in Boulder County before being released on a $1,500 bond.
Udall, who has serves since 2008, is up for reelection this year. He has two children.
The Boulder Daily Camera first reported the news.
