Lockdown at White House for fence-jumper

The White House went into lockdown on Friday afternoon after a man tried to scale a fence on the complex’s north side. 

U.S. Park Police and uniformed Secret Service officers apprehended the man at 2:45 p.m. before he climbed over the fence, Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan told The Hill.

{mosads}The man had two bags with him, Donovan said, and police were screening them.

The lockdown at the White House was no longer in effect as of 4 p.m., according to a pool report.

President Obama was not at the White House at the time of the incident.

He had been in East Lansing, Mich., for the day at an event to sign the farm bill.

Obama was due to arrive back at the White House at 4:50 p.m. 

The White House is typically locked down during possible security breaches and Pennsylvania Avenue is shut down as a precaution.
