Report: Hillary Clinton called Lewinsky a ‘loony tune’

Hillary Clinton once told a close friend that Monica Lewinsky was a “narcissistic loony tune,” according to documents published for the first time on Sunday.

The revelation was included in a series of documents from Diane Blair, a close friend and an adviser to Clinton. Blair died in 2000, and the documents were first published on Sunday by the Washington Free Beacon.

{mosads}In one diary entry, Blair describes a phone conversation she had with Clinton in Sept. 1998 in which the first lady called Monica Lewinsky a “narcissistic loony tune.” Clinton said her husband made a mistake by getting involved with Lewinsky, who was a White House intern.

Blair said Clinton gave her husband credit for ending the affair with Lewinsky.

“It was a lapse, but she says to his credit he tried to break it off, tried to pull away, tried to manage someone who was clearly a ‘narcissistic loony toon’; but it was beyond control,” Blair wrote.

After President Clinton called off their relationship, Blair said Hillary Clinton told her the president “tried to manage” Lewinsky after the break-up, but the situation spiraled “beyond control.” 

The Washington Free Beacon’s report also notes a document from 1993 in which Hillary Clinton backed a single-payer healthcare system, which she later said during her presidential campaign that she hadn’t considered that option. 

Blair’s husband donated the documents to the archive at the University of Arkansas, where Blair had worked as a political science professor. Blair had also worked on both of Clinton’s presidential campaigns.
