Obama congratulates Oshie for shootout

President Obama congratulated U.S. Olympic hockey forward T.J. Oshie after his penalty shootout goals lifted the United States to a thrilling shootout victory against Russia on Saturday.

“Congrats to T.J. Oshie and the U.S. men’s hockey team on a huge win!” the president wrote on Twitter

“Never stop believing in miracles.”

{mosads}The tweet was signed “-bo,” indicating that it was written by the president.

Oshie, who plays professionally for the St. Louis Blues, took most of his team’s shots during the shootout, which took place after the two teams played to a 2-2 draw after regulation and overtime.

Oshie’s final score during the shootout, after Russia and the U.S. had traded shots eight times in a row, caused an uproar on Twitter, where supporters joked that the hockey player should run for president in 2016.

Obama wasn’t the only world leader watching the game.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was in the stands in Sochi during the hockey match and seemed to wince after Oshie sealed the game with his final goal.

Other American officials were watching as well.

Susan Rice, the White House’s national security advisory and former ambassador to the United Nations, congratulated the men’s national team for the “thrilling win over Russia” on Twitter.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney also applauded the team’s “sweet game.”
