Obama hits links at Sunnylands course

President Obama is going golfing with close friends on Saturday, the first day of the long weekend in honor of Presidents Day.

In Southern California after meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan and announcing plans for a climate change resilience fund on Friday, Obama and three friends are hitting the links at the Sunnylands estate, outside of Palm Springs, Calif.

Obama’s golfing buddies are longtime friends from Hawaii: Bobby Titcomb, Greg Orme and Michael Ramos.

{mosads}The president’s Valentine’s Day trip to California initially raised eyebrows, since Vice President Biden and leaders of Congress had met with Abdullah earlier in the week. Why didn’t Obama meet with him then, pundits wondered, instead of dragging him across the country?

Saturday’s golf outing seems to spell a relaxing bachelors’ weekend for the president.

According to The New York Times, Obama is also planning to plow through episodes of “True Detective” and “Game of Thrones,” TV shows for which he has expressed a fondness.

It wouldn’t be the first time Obama has played golf over Presidents Day weekend. Last year, he played a round with golf star Tiger Woods while on a trip to Florida.

Washington was been hit with the worst snowstorm of the season last week, but things are looking much sunnier in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The temperature is scheduled to reach a high of 90 degrees with partly cloudy skies.

First lady Michelle Obama and the Obamas’ two daughters are not joining the president on the trip.

The president and his wife had a date night last week at the Mexican-themed Washington restaurant Oyamel.
