Jeb Bush: Hillary will have to overcome last name too

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) said Monday he is not the only potential presidential candidate who would have to overcome his last name if he runs for president.

Bush said he understands his last name will be “an issue for sure” if he runs in 2016 — but the same goes for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

{mosads}”I get the point,” Bush said, responding to a question at the Long Island Association lunch, according to CNN.

“It’s something that, if I run, I would have to overcome that.  And so will Hillary, by the way. Let’s keep the same standards for everybody.”

Many, including Bush’s own mother, have expressed reservations about electing a president whose brother and father previously served in the White House.

“It’s an issue for sure,” Bush said.

Barbara Bush last month said it is “silly” the country can’t find more than a couple families to run for president.

“And I think that the Kennedys, Clintons, Bushes — there are just more families than that. And I’m not arrogant enough to think that we alone are raising” presidential candidates.

She has made similar comments discouraging her son to run for president in the past.

Hillary Clinton — the former first lady to President Clinton who mounted her own unsuccessful bid for the Democratic nomination in 2008 — is seen as another likely candidate for president. She leads other Democrats for the nomination in early polls and tops potential GOP candidates in the general election.

It is likely that her husband’s White House tenure would follow her through the campaign as well. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has recently made a series of comments describing President Clinton as a sexual predator, dredging up his affair with Monica Lewinsky during his term.
