Ron Paul attacks Gingrich on military deferments

{mosads}”He got several deferments, he chose not to go … now he’ll send our kids,” Paul said.

“I see that as important information,” Paul added.

Paul served as a flight surgeon for the Air Force and in the Air National Guard throughout the 1960s.

The Texas congressman’s attacks have gained traction, with a PPP poll released earlier this week showing him within one point of Gingrich in Iowa and a spate of national polls showing regression for the former Speaker.

But Paul says he believes that his support is growing because economic conditions have validated the concerns he’s been expressing “for 30 years.”

“I think, sadly, it might represent how bad off we are, the economy is in shambles,” Paul said.

“I think the country is so bad off with the conditions that they want change,” he added.

He also said that he appealed to voters who recognized that neither party had addressed fundamental economic problems.

“I don’t see Obama as the problem, I see the problem as the monetary system, the deficit that’s been run up,” Paul said. “When Republicans were in charge we didn’t do such a great job, which is why the Independent movement is so strong.”

Still, Paul thinks any of the GOP candidates would fare well in a general-election match-up against the president.

“I think all of us would have a very, very good chance because the country’s down on him,” Paul said.
