Report: Key Obama aide leaving White House

A key aide to President Obama is departing the White House this spring, the Associated Press reports.

{mosads}White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations Alyssa Mastromonaco is resigning after working with Obama since he became a member of the Senate in 2005, according to the wire service.

Mastromonaco is in charge of hiring staff members and planning presidential events at the White House. She moved from the Senate to the White House with Obama when he was first inaugurated as president in 2009.

Mastromonaco is expected to remain in her position until May, according to the report.

The nine-year Obama veteran was said to be mulling a departure in January.

Mastromonaco “really knows what makes the president tick,” an official told The Hill earlier this year. “More than any two people, both Alyssa and [Deputy Chief of Staff] Rob [Nabors] demonstrate Obama’s loyalty to his personal relationships,” an official said.
