Treasury Secretary Jack Lew will undergo surgery on Tuesday in New York to treat an enlarged prostate, according to reports.
On Sunday, the department announced Lew needed the surgery “to treat a benign enlarged prostate.”
{mosads}His doctors have confirmed Lew doesn’t have prostate cancer, a source told The Wall Street Journal.
Lew, 58, will likely spend the rest of the week recovering in New York and is expected to return to work the following week.
He had to visit a hospital during a trip to Mexico last week, but the department did not specify why he went there until now.
Lew has headed the department for about a year, succeeding former Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner. Lew also served as chief of staff to President Obama and budget director.
