Ukraine, Middle East to headline Sunday shows

The unfolding crisis in Ukraine and the breakdown of peace talks between Israeli and Palestinian officials will likely dominate Sunday morning talk shows.

Late Friday, G-7 leaders announced a new round of sanctions on Russia that are expected to come as early as next week. The sanctions will target individuals with deep connections to Russian banks and companies, a White House official said on Saturday. 

{mosads}The leaders said they are “moving swiftly” to impose sanctions due to plans to hold elections in Ukraine next month. The move has taken some spotlight away from President Obama’s week-long Asia tour. 

And in the Middle East, floundering peace talks were suspended by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after the Palestinian Authority leadership announced it would be reconciling with Hamas, the Islamist group controlling Gaza that does not recognize Israel’s right to be a nation.

Here’s the lineup: 

ABC’s “This Week” -In his first network interview, new Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson discusses the latest security threats and the debate over immigration policy. Plus, George Stephanopoulos goes one-on-one with Sen. Elizabeth Warren, (D-Mass.) on her new book “A Fighting Chance.”

NBC’s “Meet the Press” – will talk with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair about President Obama’s approach to foreign policy and how to tackle Islamic extremism. Senator Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee will give perspective on the Ukraine crisis, providing insight on whether Ukraine is on the brink of a civil war and where the U.S. stands on military intervention. This week, the Pentagon announced it’s sending 600 additional troops to the Baltic states in Eastern Europe for military exercises, to reassure NATO and regional allies adjacent to Russia.

CBS’ “Face the Nation” – will focus on analysis of the growing tension in Ukraine, interviewing Sen. Bob Corker, (R-TN), a ranking member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will speak on the breakdown of talks this week between Israel and the Palestinians. Sens. Claire McCaskill, (D-Mo.) and  Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa. will also be featured in the roundtable.

CNN’s “State of the Union” – will sit-down with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the obstacles to negotiations with the Palestinians, plus Senators John Barrasso (R-Wy.) and Ben Cardin (D-Md.) from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will highlight wrinkles in the president’s foreign policy agenda.

“Fox News Sunday” – will talk exclusively with Gov Mike Pence (R-Ind.), who is mulling a 2016 presidential bid and is the fourth White House contender featured on the show. The Indiana lawmaker is coming off a key foreign policy speech in Berlin last week, and is scheduled to speak at the NRA Convention in Indianapolis.
