Former WH counsel to rejoin Latham & Watkins

Former White House counsel Kathy Ruemmler plans to rejoin Latham & Watkins as a partner on its white collar defense team, the law firm announced Tuesday.

Ruemmler, the president’s longest-serving personal attorney, departed White House last Friday. She’ll rejoin the firm, where she worked before entering the Obama Administration, in July.

I leave with great fondness and respect for my colleagues at the White House, the Department of Justice, and across the government,” Ruemmler said in a statement. “I am also excited to rejoin my friends and colleagues at Latham.”

Latham managing partner Robert Dell hailed Ruemmler as a “gifted strategist” who “will be a sought-after counselor.” 

White House press secretary Jay Carney said her former colleagues wished her well during a brief statement last week.

“We at the White House will all miss her wisdom and good humor,” Carney said.

Ruemmler was replaced at the White House by W. Neil Eggleston, who practiced white collar law at Kirkland and Ellis before joining the administration.
