Anthony Weiner mocks Benghazi selections

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) on Wednesday knocked the Democrats who House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) named to the House Select Committee on Benghazi.

Weiner tweeted late Wednesday that he’s “not crazy” about Pelosi’s picks, and that it seems like Democrats “are going into a knife fight carrying library books.”

After deliberating for more than a week about whether Democrats would even participate, Pelosi named five Democrats to the panel in an effort to fight “abuses.”

They are Reps. Elijah Cummings (Md.), Adam Smith (Wash.), Adam Schiff (Calif.), Linda Sanchez (Calif.) and Tammy Duckworth (Ill.).

Cummings will serve as ranking member, and already has experience battling Republicans’ arguments on Benghazi from his position as top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Smith is ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, Schiff serves on the appropriations panel overseeing the State Department budget, Sanchez sits on the House Ways and Means subcommittee on Oversight and Tammy Duckworth is an Iraq war veteran who also serves on the Oversight committee.

Weiner didn’t offer any alternative choices, and didn’t explain why he thinks the chosen Democrats aren’t tough enough.

Weiner served in Congress from 1999 until 2011, when he resigned after a sexting scandal. He mounted a failed bid for mayor of New York City last year.
