Rand Paul headed to Texas

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Friday will deliver the keynote address at the Texas Republican State Convention in Fort Worth, Texas, heading into the home state of two possible 2016 rivals.

Paul’s political action committee made the announcement on Monday.

“Senator Paul, as a native Texan who grew up and went to college here in Texas, represents his Texas roots well by espousing the conservative values of limited government, fiscal responsibility, free enterprise, and an effective national defense,” Texas Republican Party Chairman Steve Munisteri said in a statement.

{mosads}Paul, who has expressed interest in running for president in 2016, is among several GOP contenders speaking at the convention, including Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Gov. Rick Perry.

Perry and Cruz have both been floated as potential 2016 presidential candidates.

Other speakers include former Gov. Jeb Bush’s (R-Fla.) son George P. Bush, who is running for Texas state land commissioner, Sen. John Cornyn (R) and GOP gubernatorial nominee Greg Abbott.

A fundraiser will also be held during the convention to honor “courageous GOP women” including Sens. Kelly Ayotte (N.H.) and Deb Fischer (Neb.).
