Sunday shows: Immigration, Gaza to lead

Spiraling violence in the Middle East and the government’s response to the flood of migrant children crossing the border are primed to dominate the Sunday talk shows.

Congressional Democrats and administration officials will look to rally support for President Obama’s $3.7 billion emergency request to address the flood of tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors across the southern border.

{mosads}House Republicans have balked at the plan, with House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) dismissing the request as “too much money” in a statement Friday.

In the Middle East, the kidnappings and murder of four teenagers, a Palestinian and three Israelis, have resulted in a fresh exchange of rocket fire across the Gaza Strip.

The U.S. has defended Israeli air strikes and military operations, calling them justified after the militant group Hamas began launching rockets into Israeli territory. More than 1,000 Palestinians are estimated to be killed or injured in the Israeli response.

On Saturday, the United Nations security council called for a de-escalation of the violence and the resumption of one-on-one negotiations between the two sides, with hopes of restarting comprehensive peace talks.

Here’s the lineup:

ABC’s “This Week: Attorney General Eric Holder will discuss the administration’s border enforcement policy, as well as new terror concerns emanating from conflicts in the Middle East. A political roundtable including former Obama White House senior adviser David Plouffe, top Republican immigration strategist Ana Navarro, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol and ABC News’ Cokie Roberts will discuss this week’s political events.

NBC’s “Meet the Press”: Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will discuss ongoing negotiations over his country’s nuclear program, and is likely to face questions over whether Tehran has provided Hamas with some of the longer-range missiles they’ve used to target Israel. Former U.S. special Mideast envoy Martin Indyk, who brokered the last round of Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations, will also appear. Reps. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) and Joaquin Castro (D-Texas) are expected to discuss the border crisis.

CBS’ “Face the Nation”: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Maen Rashid Areikat, the Palestinian envoy in Washington, will discuss the latest violence in Gaza. Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who met with President Obama to discuss the border crisis earlier this week, will talk about his plan to surge National Guardsmen to the area, while Reps. Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif.), Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.), and Lamar Smith, (R-Texas) will debate the president’s emergency spending.

Fox News Sunday: Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) and Perry are expected to discuss the crisis on the border. McCaul is also likely to field questions about allegations the U.S. spied in Germany, as well as new travel restrictions stemming from concerns of a terror attack emanating from Syria.

CNN’s State of the Union: Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz) and a panel of House members, including Republican Reps. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee and Aaron Schock of Illinois, and Democratic Reps. Donna Edwards of Maryland and Beto O’Rourke of Texas, will debate the prospects for the president’s emergency spending package. Netanyahu will also appear to discuss the Middle East.
