Obama: Let’s not live out ‘Scandal’

President Obama appeared at a fundraiser Wednesday at the home of “Scandal” creator Shonda Rimes and used the popular political thriller to speak about Washington. 

“No offense, ‘Scandal’ is a great show,” Obama said at the fundraiser before a crowd that included the show’s lead actress Kerry Washington. “But it’s not necessarily something we want to be living out.”

{mosads}Speaking at the fundraiser, Obama tore into the Republican Party saying, it “has been taken over by people who just don’t believe in government.”

Republicans he said “obfuscate and they bamboozle and sometimes don’t say what’s true — that was a euphemism,” he said to laughter. 

Obama made the remarks in the middle of a three-day West Coast swing, where he’s been raising money for Democrats for the midterm election in November. 

Speaking at the fundraiser, he urged donors to turn out in the midterm elections, saying Republicans have larger turnouts on Election Day, and that resulted in the GOP taking control of the House and leading to John Boehner’s role as Speaker of the House. 

“What happened to Nancy Pelosi?” Obama said. “What happened is, y’all didn’t vote. And that’s when all kinds of … stuff happened. That’s what it was, stuff.”

The president used the big-dollar moment to philosophize, saying, “Sometimes in life, as well as politics, we don’t get 100 percent of what we want right away.”

But he added, that he doesn’t tell his daughters that when they hit an obstacle, “you should quit.”

“I’ve got two years left in this presidency; I want to get a whole bunch of stuff done,” Obama said.
