Former Green Bay Packer endorses Santorum

Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, a former Green Bay Packer, endorsed GOP contender Rick Santorum Sunday.

“I am endorsing Rick Santorum for president because he is a solid leader that represents the timeless values that made America good and prosperous,” the former defensive end said in a statement.

Gbaja-Biamila was drafted to the Packers in 2000 and left the team after nine years. He holds the Packers’ sacks record with 74 and a half.

The defensive end has unofficially retired from football.

“Football taught me a lot,” Gbaja-Biamila said. “One of the game’s greatest lessons is that we play to win, and we play until it is over. 

Wisconsin’s Tuesday primary is a critical contest for Santorum, who is trailing GOP front-runner Mitt Romney in national polls and in delegates. 

Romney has been boosted this week by a series of high-profile endorsements as party leaders seek to coalesce around the presumptive nominee and end a protracted nomination fight. On Sunday, Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson (R) threw his support behind the former Massachusetts governor.

A poll last week found Santorum trailing Romney by seven points in Wisconsin.
