Dem Sen. Mark Pryor won’t be ‘very active’ in Obama reelection effort

Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) says he won’t be “very active” in campaigning for President Obama’s reelection.

Speaking with with The City Wire, a local Arkansas news site, Pryor, who endorsed Hillary Clinton for president during the 2008 presidential elections, said he would be “not very active” in the 2012 elections, including in terms of campaigning for Obama.

{mosads}”As much as I may love all of our presidents, I just don’t really get involved in those races. My view is, Democrat, Republican, it doesn’t matter, my view is I’m in Washington to try to work with people,” Pryor said in an interview published Monday afternoon.

Pryor did not elaborate in the interview what “very active” would mean, and didn’t say if he would endorse a candidate for president.

Pryor described himself as a “nonpartisan” legislator.

“And whether it’s a President Romney or whoever it may be next time, or President Obama next time, or whether the Senate is majority-Democrat or majority-Republican or same with the House, that is totally secondary to me. I just try to work with people, work together.

“I’m a Democrat, but I’m really bipartisan — some people might say nonpartisan.”

Pryor said his role as a senator was to represent his state.

“I’m not there to represent a president. I think that is one thing that I think people in Arkansas understand, but nationally people have forgotten this,” Pryor added.

Pryor is up for reelection in 2014.
